Let’s Cut the Crap

Candy crush is destroying lives!  Mine, namely.  I found my self spending large amount of time mindlessly shifting pretty little colored candies around the computer screen.  It would suck multiple minutes per day; hours per week.  Ask me what I got out of this? The only positive I can think of is hand eye coordination.  The negatives started to stack up quickly when I really got to thinking about it.  I neglected cleaning the house, playing with the kids, reading good books, the laundry, or even sleeping.  ME…. SLEEPING!!!!!
So I finally made the decision to (gasp) delete the app.  That was 5 days ago.  And much to my surprise I am still alive and potentially better for it.  This small victory over the “internet” has me thinking of other areas of my life that are truly wasted time.
We make so many excuses about not having “time” for anything that we should do that is actually good for us and then spend so much effort wasting the actual time we “don’t have.”  I want to read good books and exercise appropriately without excuse and give my kids a mother who is present for them.  So starts my journey to cutting out the crap.  I almost can’t wait to see what else I can get rid of that truly doesn’t matter and doesn’t add to my life. Except candy, candy always matters.

Today I ran about 4 miles today on the treadmill at my super slow peanut butter pace but the good news is that I can go 4 miles and not die during the process.  The next goal I have for myself is to increase the pace I am running but still run the same amount of time.  It’s my own little theory to increase my pace time.  It may not work, but I figure at least if I’m still running it can’t be all bad. Right?

At least I’ll be upright.

5 miles of Sydney Bristow

I'm back in uncharted territory. 5 miles today baby!!! And the last mile I ran in 10:18. I managed to take about 15 sec off each mile from start to finish. Surprisingly I was not a huffing and puffing mess. My foot still feels pretty good but I'm just waiting for th bottom to fall out on that. I'm a perpetual pessimist. It's pretty much doom and gloom at my house on a daily basis. So if you are looking for a good time, come on over to the Haute. Anyhoo, it felt really good. Not, eating a Dairy Queen ice cream cake good but maybe a warm pop tart on a cold morning good. Either way, I'm satisfied.

If you do stop by, I'll be the girl looking homeless.

I have also fallen in love with Jennifer Garner. She kicks a$$. Lately, Ive been watching an entire episode of Alias during my runs and she gives me the will to keep going. If Sydney Bristow can run and fight in 5 inch heels whilst dangling from a grappling hook, surely I can run for a few measly minutes on a flat treadmill. It's just so much easier to push through the miles with some incentive (get Jennifer Garner's abs).

Sorry Jen, I'll focus more.

I've got five seasons to get through so that should last me the next few months if I only watch it while running. And it gives me the desire to run to see what that dirty SD6 is up too. I know it's like years old and possibly dated as far as fashion is concerned, but I don't care, it's love. I just may become a spy. Or I might eat a few Reese's peanut utter cups and go to bed. I'll see which one is most appealing in about 30 minutes.

And its the big cup for the win, sorry abs...

Buy me some shoes, NOW!!!

So, this morning I came to the realization that I go back to work on Thursday for 3 days in a row.  Suck!!!  I did manage to get in 3.4 miles on the treadmill in about 36 minutes and then spend the rest of the hour I had planned walking at a 5.0 incline. I am determined to do at least an hour of cardio 4 days a week.  It’s really time to pick up the pace if I expect these legs to look better.  And I also decided that I need a goal to keep me focused and on track ( no pun intended).  So, soon I will be researching some local races and decided which one to grace with my presence. And if you feel like going with me feel free.  It would be nice actually to have someone be my running friend. (Disclaimer: you must be a slow turd to run with me)

I also realized while stretching after running today that my shoes are pretty much spent.

shoetread

Where there used to be tread on my shoes, it is nice and flat.  The heel doesn’t look much better.  If I use my average mileage since I started running in these shoes I’m at around 330 miles give or take a few.  I guess they aren’t gonna make it to 500.  So, who wants to get me some new Brookes?  Great! Thanks!

Did I mention that I really don’t want to weigh myself ever again?

PS. That candy is yelling at me from the kitchen.  It calls my name and whispers sweet nothings in my ear.  I will do my best to deny it’s calling but I don’t think I can hold off for long.  I’m loosing my grip by the minute.

Ok, maybe I can wait a few more minutes…

In case you live under a rock, Jessica Simpson is preggers, so that makes me feel better that a skinny person is getting fat right now.

And can you believe that another person who is famous for not a whole lot is filing for divorce after only 72 days?  I know, I’m in shock.

Easy Kim, those look a little leathal.  Hey, I can’t blame her.  She’s hot and making profit on it.  I’d do the same thing if I could…

Beauty & the Beast

This staycation has not been all it’s cracked up to be.  I’m pretty sure there has been some weight gain, but seeing I have a current aversion from the scale at present I don’t exactly know.  The whole running thing hasn’t been top priority for me these last two weeks and my jeans are fitting a bit differently. Epic Fail.  On the bright side yesterday was Halloween.  And you know sugar cures all ills.

girlshalloween

Alright girls, go get em.

We decided to go to the mall for trick or treat last night.  It’s warm, it’s friendly, and it gives you the most bang for your buck in the candy crop. And it was a bumper crop, let me tell you.  I should have taken a picture of it.  I have two giant Tupperware containers full of it.  Watch out bathroom scale, I’m coming for you.

elliehalloween My feelings exactly!

In case you didn’t get it, Little Girl #1 is Beauty and Little Girl #2 is The Beast.  But since they don’t sell “Beast” costumes we purchased the next closest thing which is a Lion.  It works, I think.  I should have taken a picture of their faces at the end of the night.  Make up everywhere!!!

Big D and I didn’t dress up cause were cheap like that and we can also just steal the candy from the little ones when they aren’t looking anyway.  Bonus to having kids!

So did you dress up as anything for All Hallows Eve or do you choose to steal the candy from the children?

Mount Squashmore

After spending my Saturday morning running with a bunch of strangers, most of which run faster than I do, I spent another 3 or 4 agonizing hours waiting for and suffering through a “Pumpkin” parade all in the name of motherhood.  Sure I was sweaty, sore and really, really, REALLY hungry but why not watch horses poop and politicians pass out candy in an effort to obtain my vote. (Suckers don’t know I live in Indiana and can’t vote in Central Illinois, mua hahahaha, insert devilish grin)

elliecandy

I had my girls on candy like white on rice.  Little girl #2 even suffered a slight case of road rash to the nose in order to get a dark chocolate Milky Way.  Her big old head pulled her forward when she reached down while standing on a curb. She’s at least got her priorities straight.

She also bounced right back after spotting Clifford walk by in the parade exactly 2.7 seconds after falling off the curb on her nose.

It doesn’t look as bad in the picture but it is.  What’s really bad is that the next day she got really mad and rubbed on her nose and broke the site open and the whole end of her nose is covered in a dark red scab.  Super great for the 2 year pictures that she needs to have.

DarthVadar

Darth Vadar and some Storm Trooper. Really? only the bad guys, couldn’t find a wookie? Goes along with the politicians.

moose

That’s right moose.  You better bring candy next time.

I did say it was a pumpkin festival.

And after 6 marching bands, 5 sets of cheerleaders, some Shriners in teeny tiny cars, some random cartoon characters and an impromptu traveling street volleyball game we called it quits and hitchhiked back home to get my niece, Ali, ready for homecoming.

No, but I might slip you some pink eye.

alihomecoming3

Right after this photo, the paparazzi swarmed and we had to take cover.

I wish I had her legs, Oh to be 15 again…

I did her hair and make-up which could have been dangerous considering I have no formal training, but don’t tell her that, I might be able to charge her the next time.  Feel free to hire me for any future homecoming events.  I can also be persuaded to do proms, bat mitzvahs, and the occasional wedding.
