Hell Hole

I think I'm working too much. This week I have 58 hours scheduled. It might be a little too much for me. I have been trying to figure out how to work less but in the mean time I picked up a second job and didn't cut back at the other job. WTH was I thinking? Now I just feel like this when I run...

Must find a way out of hell hole.

By the way my oldest child turned 7 today. I now feel like an aged piece of cheese that is molding and crusty. That is all...

I’ll just run on my hands

Despite a week off from running and any other physical activity my feet still hurt like a mother.  And I go to bed every night thinking about all the things that I would like to do the next day but don’t because “the feet must rest”.  Well this is crap!!!

MarriedWithChildren3

I’m dying to get some exercise, really to run, and feel like I’m at a dead end.  Now I know that 7 days off was not going to miraculously heal my feet and I could then run a sub 4 mile, but I was hoping for an ever so slight improvement.  I guess I’ll try and do a little research before starting something even though what I would like to do is just ignore my feet and run anyway.  Could I use this injury as an excuse for an in ground pool in the backyard?

MarriedWithChildren

My “vacation” is winding down and I an looking for an excuse to not go back at all.  In fact I am contemplating ways to earn a living from home: collecting cans on the highway, selling candy bars door to door, or finding a relative who just won the power ball.  I don’t know, just some ideas I’m kicking around.

MarriedWithChildren2

I spent this past weekend at my Mom’s house visiting the fam.  It was a lot of fun.  I wish there were more pictures seeing as some pretty stupid antics happened involving a few bicycles, brown paper bags, and a make shift dance floor in the kitchen.  I hate to leave them (mainly because they feed me well), but they just won't pay you if you don’t go to your job.  So back in the Haute I am.

Two more days and it’s back to the grind.

My socks made me fail

This morning was PERFECT weather for a run.  Now, if only I had a body designed for running I could be really happy.  But alas, I have a broken down, aging, slightly overweight body that can’t seem to move as fast as it used to.  I did not let that get me down.  Out I went and into uncharted territory (no really, I went down some back country roads that I was not sure would take me back to civilization.)  The plan was to go 10 miles.  As we all know plans are meant to be broken.  After a mile of warming up my left foot I felt good.  I kept it at a slow pace, purposely, because I knew that there was no way I was going to be able to make it 10 miles at a 10:00 pace.

IMG_1464

True story, couldn’t find matching socks today.  Hope the horses didn’t mind my lack of style.

Around mile 4 I could feel that my knees were not going to hold up well.  This last month has been spent exclusively on the treadmill and with no incline, which has been good for the feet but not good for training.  I almost died near mile 7 then pulled it back together after a particularly rough hill and finished up with 8.3 miles.  The route I chose today had so many hills.  Why are there so many hills?????  And asphalt, why is it so hard???? I think I will have to get a few more outside runs in to get ready. Hey Jen, how's your training going?

IMG_0140

Sorry I asked… I’ll assume that it is going as well as mine. Let’s just make sure we are not last.

Our goal is to NOT die on May 5th. That and avoid the dreaded DNF.  We could take the wagon with us and take turns towing each other every other mile.

Guess what I saw this morning in the field next to my house.

IMG_1462

Yeah, that’s corn.  In April!!!!  Who are these farmers and why are they planting so early.  It’s suppose to frost tonight.  Do they have really large sheets that they are going to place over the corn tonight to prevent crop failure much like my grandma Dolly used to do to her garden?  I know it was really warm here in March but golly gee wiz…it won't be knee high by July, it will be knee high by June!!!

Only six more working days until my next vacation.  Hurry up May 2nd!!!

What are you looking forward to?

Let’s get this vacations going…

Two weeks without work started today.  This staycation was kicked off right with a 3 mile run on the treadmill at the gym.  And if my diabolical plan goes well, I will be back on track for my half marathon by the end of the two weeks.  I’ve been pretty lazy the last few month about training and I can really tell.  I can measure it too, on the scale…

hector2

I’m just as shocked as you Hector.

I also have dealt with annoying heel pain for the last 5 years off and on.  Of course it is worse with running but I’ve always pushed through.  Well the last couple of weeks I have literally wanted to cut my left foot off my body to make the pain go away.  I am seeing a podiatrist about it but he has me putting a cream on my heels 4 times per day and taking an anti-inflammatory twice daily and I can’t always remember to do those things and take my Alzheimer's medications.  I’m just wondering if there is maybe something more going on that heel spurs.

hector

He really would, I don’t understand why he likes my feet so much.

On the way home this morning I was stuck behind a woman in a BMW driving at warp speed (18 mph) while talking on a cell phone.  Road rage could be a small problem that I have that is only brought about by other stupid drivers.  Really lady, lets be extremely rude and obnoxious while possibly causing a wreck.  GET OFF YOUR PHONE.  Just drive.  It can wait.  And if it can’t wait pull over!

She must have read these…

salad

My salad made me feel better.  Too much avocado?  I didn’t think so.  And yes gold fish are a viable substitute for croutons.  Especially when you have a 2 year old who sits in your lap while eating and wants to pick at your food too.  Bingo bango, they pick the gold fish.  And don’t worry I topped that bad boy off with some ranch dressing.  It was delicious.  Probably not as nutritious that way, but defiantly delicious.

Here is to hoping that might foot doesn’t fall off in the morning…

I’m Poor

.

I just spend a couple hours paying my bills.  Now that I’m good an depressed about that I think I’ll go get lost in a magazine or a book.  That should help me raise some money and make me feel rich.

Funny Valentine's Day Ecard: I was wondering if you could lend me money for the perfect Valentine's Day date I want to take you on.

I work the next 3 days in a row before going on my staycaction!!!  It’s my silver lining.

I'm gonna need a nap

Lately there has been a lot of overtime at work and I usually can’t seem to fit any in due to life getting in the way, but I do like money so I managed to sign up for an overtime shift tonight.  I haven’t worked a night shift in over 4 years.  These decisions always sound great at the time you make them but this morning I question that decision.  I’m going to be REALLY sleepy tomorrow.  I hope that I can sleep at nap time, because today would be the day of all days that I won't be tired in the afternoon.  It should be interesting tonight, so I’ll just go ahead and apologize for the night now.

17846_1188511640558_1461347915_30429729_115177_n[1]

I end up working with people like this.

Or this…

And then crazy things tend to happen that are not allowed on film to protect the innocent.

Also on the good news front, I didn’t get locked in a crazy murderers basement.  We bought a new used desk and it is working out wonderfully.  I can now spend the new few months over obsessing about organizing this space and feeling productive.

DSC_0551

Still a work in progress, and I need a desk chair now too.

I plan on running before work tonight,  it may happen earlier than expected if I can’t sleep.  We’ll see how that goes…

Move over Martha, Jess has the power drill

I just realized that between the bubonic plague that struck our household and my working 4 out of 5 days in a row I haven’t had the time nor desire to step foot into my running shoes.  I wish I could say it has been a restful week off but I think, looking back, that I probably would have enjoyed having my eyes poked out the running.  So I eased into any physical activity with a nice 30 minutes on the elliptical and then managed to run 1.5 miles before crapping out and pretending to lift heavy things.  I felt overly productive.

Yes, I know. Lets not rub it in.

So when I got home I decided to go DIY and install the laundry room cabinet that I keep avoiding.  I think it didn’t turn out to bad.  I just hope that I anchored that bad boy into the studs.  The doors weren’t that difficulty to put on, much to my surprise.  Martha Stewart, you ain’t got nothing on me.  Now if I could just figure out what to put in it…  (Seems like I had big plans for it when I first had the idea.)

Move over Bob Villa, I’m coming for ya!!!

What did you do productive with your day?

Let me Sleep

I'm pooped. Whose idea was it to get up at 4:30am and run before work anyway? Oh, me? No. That doesn't seem right.

Oh well. 4 miles before work and then 12 hours on my feet and I'm beat. Trying to go to bed and this guy trying to spoon me.

Pathetic, I know. Night, night.

Maybe I shouldn’t do chili

After a VERY LONG 12 hour day at work, I did something that hasn't been done in weeks, perhaps months.  I went to the gym.  Now don’t get all excited it didn’t really go as well as I dreamed.  But that’s what you get for still thinking that you’re a young, fit, skinny, active individual.  When you are actually (cringe) old, overweight, out-of-shape, craptastic individual you can’t just get out there and run 26.2 miles.  Crazy, I know!

aftonellie

You two just wait till high school, I can’t wait to ruin everything.

The plan went like this: run 3 miles and then lift weights on the arms for 30 minutes.  After 2.6 seconds on the treadmill reality set in and someone pulled the chain for the light bulb over my head.  It just wasn’t gonna happen.  I had hastily scarfed down a small cup of chili around 5:30pm or so to that I wouldn’t be famished and running.

BowlOfRedChili

By the time I got on the treadmill at 8:00pm it seemed that it had been good planning.  BUT I couldn’t breath, and my stomach cramped.  I was a hot mess.  It was the kind of breathing that I thought would ease after a little bit so I pushed through to a half a mile. (I know, I suck, keep you comments to yourself.) The half mile point is usually when things level out and I feel ok.  Well, that’s when it got worse today.  I had the feeling like when your pregnant and your uterus is so full of baby that there is no more room in your belly and your lungs have no where to expand.  That’s a feeling I really don’t want to remember.  So a mile was all I could handle before I was lightheaded.

So on to plan B.  Lift some heavy stuff for a while and hope that no one really looks at you and figures out that you don’t know what your doing.  And that’s what I did for the rest of my time.

afton2

Thank you little girl #1, I knew I could count on you.

I pretty much deserved to be stoned for my lack of ability, but I guess its better than doing nothing after work.  So tomorrow I will attempt to bet fit all over again.  If you want to come watch me and heckle that would be great.  Any type of reinforcement, positive or negative, is much appreciated.

Treadmill Purgatory

Seems like the beginning of every run, or workout for that matter, is a struggle.  I struggle for the desire to do anything, I struggle for the desire to keep going, and once I’m done I am dreading the next day when I have to do this all over again.  It’s not suppose to be like this!!!  Where is that fire I use to have for getting up and getting moving?  Lately, I just suck.  Though it probably doesn’t help that I have been only able to workout every 3 days or so.  (Stupid 12 hour job!) It seemed like it was easier when the weather was nice.

supertrooper3

Take today for example.  I made it to the gym by 8:30am-ish and then sat in the locker room talking myself into getting out there. Then once I pulled my large butt off the locker room floor and took the steps necessary to get going I ended up on an elliptical first for around 20 minutes just talking myself into running.  It didn’t help that there was a young, skinny, fit, and pretty girl running her back side off right next to me at warp speed.  After deciding to make the leap over to treadmill purgatory I could only do 3 miles before crumpling into a depressing heap back in the locker room.

supertrooper

Did I mention the whole time I was running I stared at a gray sky, pouring rain?  It really was a spirit booster!  I’m going out on a limb here and conclude that my aversion to working out lately has to do with a combination of things.

1. I‘m in a rut.

2. I don’t have any workout buddies.

3. I think I’m having a midlife crisis.  (I will be 30 soon)

supertrooper2

And we all know it’s easier to complain about things instead of changing them, so I’m gonna keep complaining for the time being until divine intervention happens and fixes one of the above.

supertrooper4

Maybe at this point I should be seeking some professional help.  But who can afford that?  I’ll just continue hating running until I like it again… Yeah, that might work.

Buy me some shoes, NOW!!!

So, this morning I came to the realization that I go back to work on Thursday for 3 days in a row.  Suck!!!  I did manage to get in 3.4 miles on the treadmill in about 36 minutes and then spend the rest of the hour I had planned walking at a 5.0 incline. I am determined to do at least an hour of cardio 4 days a week.  It’s really time to pick up the pace if I expect these legs to look better.  And I also decided that I need a goal to keep me focused and on track ( no pun intended).  So, soon I will be researching some local races and decided which one to grace with my presence. And if you feel like going with me feel free.  It would be nice actually to have someone be my running friend. (Disclaimer: you must be a slow turd to run with me)

I also realized while stretching after running today that my shoes are pretty much spent.

shoetread

Where there used to be tread on my shoes, it is nice and flat.  The heel doesn’t look much better.  If I use my average mileage since I started running in these shoes I’m at around 330 miles give or take a few.  I guess they aren’t gonna make it to 500.  So, who wants to get me some new Brookes?  Great! Thanks!

Did I mention that I really don’t want to weigh myself ever again?

jesssad2

PS. That candy is yelling at me from the kitchen.  It calls my name and whispers sweet nothings in my ear.  I will do my best to deny it’s calling but I don’t think I can hold off for long.  I’m loosing my grip by the minute.

bikini

Ok, maybe I can wait a few more minutes…

In case you live under a rock, Jessica Simpson is preggers, so that makes me feel better that a skinny person is getting fat right now.

jessicasimpsonpreggers

And can you believe that another person who is famous for not a whole lot is filing for divorce after only 72 days?  I know, I’m in shock.

Easy Kim, those look a little leathal.  Hey, I can’t blame her.  She’s hot and making profit on it.  I’d do the same thing if I could…

Buy Some

Not much has happened during this staycation.  And that’s just the way I like it. So quit bugging me.  I did manage to have a jewelry party hosted by my super awesome best friend Amber.

Amber2

All clear girl. Not a boogie in sight.

What can I say? We like to eat.  Don’t get in our way during said eating times or you might loose a limb.  I’ve worked with Amber for the last 7 years and she just recently added Stella & Dot stylist to her repituoir (selling jewelry compliments nursing, right?)

Jewelry2

Give me one of each, NOW!

A few people from work showed up and purchased some lovely pieces and ate some food and drank some wine. We got a little loud.  So it’s a good thing I live out in the middle of no where, no cops here.

food

The food disappeared pretty quickly.

party

Just imagine the stories that were pouring forth from all nurses in this room.  Blood, guts, vomit and poop galore.

I even convinced my friend to buy this necklace.

Cindy

Tough Cindy, you have to. It’s state law.

I had a lot of fun and should probably have friends over more often.  But the fact that I like to live like a hermit gets in the way.  I have lived in this house for over 2 years and this is the first non-birthday party that I have had.  And if you notice the above photos, my walls are barren.  I can’t decorate and don’t want to spend the money on decorating.  I’m waiting on my sister to do it for me but she’s just too lazy.

jenlazy

Get up and make me a sandwich!

Any body else ever have an in home, here buy this crap party?  I loved this one.

I Need a Buddy

Today was a busy day between getting little girl # 2 to the doctor for a 2 year well child check and a meeting for work this afternoon.  I did manage to get to the gym around 4:00pm.  Three miles on the treadmill at a 9:40 pace. I decided that I wasn’t going to get any faster running slow.  So, even though 9:40 isn’t much faster than my usual 10 min mile it felt like I was FLYING.  My legs were burning after that pace.  It’s tough to get this much weight moving that fast.

Jen3

I know, I bore myself.  I need to be a better runner to be more entertaining I guess.

Lately it’s been hard to find the motivation to get one foot in front of the other.  I need someone to kick my butt on a daily basis especially if I am gonna be a better runner.

How in the world do you find a running buddy when you don’t know many people?  I’ve lived in Terre Haute for 9 years but have avoided civilization like the plague.  I probably wouldn't know anyone except for the fact I have to work in order to have things like food and clothing.  And at said job, they make me actually work with other people. Can you believe that?

In other new:

Here is what my living room looked like today.  Like a Barbie convention gone wrong.

barieroughnight

If I had a nickel for every night like this I’d have… well nothing.

barbieken

Could be a shark bite or a bar fight, I’m not sure.

Things could always be worse.  They could have been partying with the potato head family that was under the foot stool.  Those taters are totally crazy.

Check out this family.  Aren’t they precious?

Family

Don’t ask how many takes it took to get a decent shot.

Three cheers for the free church directory photo!!!  The little one looks like she is plotting something.

I promise that I will be more interesting at a later date.

Holy Baby, Batman

Monday after work I hot stepped it over to the fitness center to try my first run in a week.  I managed 3 miles before my foot started to feel some pain so I quit there.  I ran around a 10:29 mile and I’m ok with that.  I didn’t get to go yesterday after work but I plan on running after getting this drivel posted.

I found this picture and am now very disturbed.

pregnant

What exactly is this?

If having a baby was this easy I’d totally do it again. Step one- remove stomach panel. Step- 2 remove baby. Step 3- replace perfectly formed stomach panel. Step 4-Enjoy!!!

Don’t be fooled by their smiles.  They are plotting a plan to take over the world.

These two yahoos were a lot more difficult that that.  Which is why I now have to run like the wind to get rid of the “damage” caused by pregnancy and hope that I can one day feel like myself again in some skinny pants.

Put On A Happy Face

It has been a while since I worked all three of my 12 hour shifts in a row and I forgot how crappy that it is.

jesswork

Notice all the crap that I have on my shirt. A name badge, three pens, and a special walkie talkie, patients can find me anywhere with that.

My feet hurt, I’m tired, and I’m am emotionally drained from dealing with everything that comes with taking care of sick people, some of which believe that the hospital is their own personal Hilton Suites.  Sometimes I want a job where I sit at a desk in a cubicle and don’t talk to anyone all day.  That would be my dream, some days.

office space What the movie Office Space can teach us about Personal Development

Last night when I got home this was waiting for me.

moscato

Sweet googly moogly.  A nice glass of moscato and and episode of Community.  At least the night ended well for me.

The foot feels alright today, but I don’t know if I’m gonna push it with running.  It seems like I never really wait long enough to recover from an injury.  But who needs feet? Really?
